Memo - Face to face Medical Director meetings
MEMORANDUM
March 31, 2025
The medical director team and I believe strongly in face-to-face medical director meetings in small groups. It is an important piece of a successful, high-quality EMS system. It has been proven over decades.
I don't think everyone embraces it and has importance. It's just a chore or another requirement. It's not always convenient. Knowing your feelings we decided to change a few things. We are no longer going to have 630 p.m. meetings that interrupt your dinner. We are also going to decrease our meetings to three times a year. Part of that change is that we will be in station with precepted medics and that shift in that station. This change will require more time and effort from the medical directors.
We, and the Chiefs, have all agreed that there should be a minimum number of medical director meetings attended by fire department EMTs and paramedics. With only three meetings per year/six every two years we will need to change that to:
All EMTs and paramedics need to attend five face-to-face medical director meetings in a two-year period (the sixth virtual meeting will be optional) or
EMTs and paramedics must attend four face-to-face meetings and virtually attend the two meetings that were missed. There will be test questions for virtual meetings because we really want you to listen, learn and provide feedback.
These meetings help you make better decisions in the field which affords us the opportunity to empower you to make even better decisions to provide extremely high-quality care for our patients.
It really works!
